About

Our Story.

Set on a secluded peninsula just across the bay from Maputo, Machangulo Beach Lodge is perfectly positioned for travellers seeking both adventure and escape. Here, luxury is found not in extravagance but in the rhythm of the tides, the rustle of palm leaves in the breeze and the unspoiled landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. Each of our ten rooms has been thoughtfully designed to complement the environment. They are elegant yet understated and invite guests to experience comfort in harmony with nature.

The idea behind Machangulo Beach Lodge has always been simple. We want to share the beauty of this incredible peninsula with travellers looking for something truly special. Not flashy or overdone, this is an authentic Mozambican experience in one of the most unspoilt corners of Africa. What makes it unique is the chance to experience the real Mozambique, its warmth, traditions and people.

Built in 2009 and 2010, the lodge was carefully planned to fit within the dune forest without disturbing the pristine environment. From the very beginning, it was essential that Machangulo had as little impact as possible on the untouched nature of the peninsula. Over the years, we have made thoughtful improvements to enhance the guest experience while continuing to reduce our environmental footprint.

Sustainability and community are at the heart of everything we do. Local materials, labour and resources were used to bring the lodge to life. Today we are proud that all of our staff are Mozambican, with ninety nine percent coming from the surrounding area. By choosing Machangulo Beach Lodge, you are not only discovering a private paradise but also supporting a business that values its people, protects its environment and celebrates the spirit of Mozambique.

At Machangulo every day brings new discoveries from barefoot comfort and unspoilt beaches to wild landscapes and warm genuine hospitality.

Mozambique experiences a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons:

December – March (Rainy Season):
Expect warm temperatures with occasional heavy showers, especially in the afternoons and evenings.

April – May (Transition Period):
The rains taper off, humidity drops, and sunny days become more frequent — especially in the south.

June – October (Dry Season):
This is the ideal time to visit, with clear skies, sunshine, and very little rain.

June, July, and August are cooler in the evenings (a light duvet is recommended), while daytime temperatures often reach above 30°C.

September – October:
Still dry and warm with hot days, though evenings remain pleasantly cool.

November (Transition Month):
Weather can be unpredictable as the rains may begin, but many days remain sunny and beautiful.
